Infrastructure Aging and Risk Management Most underground pipelines, regardless of their application, have a design life of approximately 25 years. As these assets age, structural deterioration often begins with hairline cracks and minor leakages. If left unaddressed, these issues can escalate into catastrophic failures. Persistent leaks also lead to internal soil erosion, which is a primary cause of ground subsidence (sinkholes) and landslides. Advanced Technology: Leak Noise Correlation We utilize state-of-the-art Leak Noise Correlators—sophisticated electronic systems designed to detect and locate leaks in pressurized water or gas mains:
Methodology: High-sensitivity acoustic sensors are placed at two or more points along the pipeline to record the sound frequencies generated by a leak.
Automated Analysis: By inputting variables such as pipe material, diameter, and sensor distance, the system’s algorithm calculates the precise location of the leak based on sound velocity.
Pinpoint Verification: Once the initial location is identified, we employ Electronic Ground Microphones (Leak Detectors) for surface-level pinpointing. This ensures that trial pit excavations and subsequent repairs are conducted with surgical precision, minimizing disruption and costs.
